Just like the Spring Session, this is not set in stone yet, but I would like to put together a construction session for sometime during Fall 2008. So this post is a cut and paste from my Spring session post.

I have every tool we would need except for maybe clamps. And I'm within 15 minutes from any source for materials (Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware, Hobby Shops, etc.). I also have CAD drawings for just about any basic module configuration, and some more complex. And lastly, I have a 2 car garage and barn we can work in. The barn may be rough since it has a dirt floor, but we can use it to cut material and maybe set up on the second floor if my niece and brother-in-law haven't set up a pitching machine yet.

So if everyone interested could check their calendars and find out when would be good for you, I would appreciate it, and it will help me plan for a time that won't conflict with family functions. Other than Thanksgiving, I'm not sure of any major holidays that would be a problem.

We can make this for a few hours, a whole day or even the weekend if needed.

Goal This Session: Our goal would be to get modules that have a majority of scenery and wiring started and get them done and possibly be ready for train shows in 2009. We could hold 2 sessions this season. Our regular session and one before setting up for the Dayton Train Show.

Post here with any thoughts or ideas.

The session date is set for the first weekend of October, 4-5. If anyone is interested, please post here.

hello OVFM, Sounds interesting but a busy time for me. Free Mo has alway interested me as I am a member of a Cinti module group, the round n round type, and would like to learn more about FreeMO but it is hard to find some activity close to Fairfield Ohio. Where would you be holding the work sessions exactly? Cy Swegert

Cy,

The work session will be held at my house in Centerville, which is a southern suburb of Dayton. I'm just off of SR 48 before entering Centerville.

I would be interested in coming out to this session to meet everyone. Saturday, Oct. 4th would work better for me.

I currently have the framework built for 3 modules that are 2.5' x 6' in size. I am going to work up some drawings for a couple of adapter modules that would have a 2.5' end plate on one side and a 2' end plate on the other.

If I have the money to get the materials by this work session, I can bring it all with me to get these built. Do you have a miter saw or possibly a table saw with a dato blade set?

Well, as it stands, I may be the only one to meet lol. But hopefully I can get some interest from fliers at local hobby shops, if I can ever get them printed.

I have CAD drawings I can adjust to work for what you need. Originally they are 24" to 26" width for single to double track mainlines. Or I can draw one from scratch if needed.

I have a 10" miter saw and 10" table saw, but no dado set. Although, there might be one out in the barn from the previous owners. But I haven't looked. If not, I might try to pick on up at Ace, Lowe's or Home Depot next trip. Or if you have access to one, feel free to bring it.

Do you have the fliers in electronic format? If so, can you send me the file so I can print some off and leave them at some local hobby shops here in Cincinnati?

This is fine with me. You sound like you are pretty busy with your house as well, so if you need me to work something, just let me know. I will try to locate the drawings for the modules I already have so you can see how I designed them.

Let me see if I can borrow one. Do you know if the arbor on your table saw is long enough to hold a dato blade? If not, this isn't a big deal. When I built the framework for the first 3 modules, I dato cut all the joints just to help make the framework more rigid. Since then I have see some other construction methods that look to be just as strong and easier to make, lol.

I have the fliers in an image format, so I will post the file for download soon.

Sounds good on the drawings. I'll work on some in AutoCAD at work too.

I'm pretty sure the arbor is long enough, I'll look later on tonight when I'm out in the garage working on my modules wiring.

I'm all for strong and easy lol.

Here is a DWG file for that adapter module. I drew it in AutoCAD. I wasn't sure if you had anything that could read it. If not I can create a jpg for you.

Attached File ( Number of downloads: 10 )

September 1st begins the roll call for the October 4th construction/ops/BS session.

If you are definitely going to attend, let me know in this post or through PM's and I will send my address and/or directions.
